Finning UK wins West Midlands Apprenticeship Award
Finning UK has won the Large Employer of the Year in the West Midlands award at a regional awards ceremony hosted by the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) last Friday. The Cannock based company won the award that celebrates the achievements of apprentices and the businesses that employ them.
The award submission was judged on Finning UK's continued commitment to training, the growth of its apprenticeship programme and the benefits it infers to both apprentices and the organization as a whole.
As the winner of its category as a large employer (250- 4,999 employees), Finning UK was successful in beating the other two finalists Cadburys (Kraft Foods) and the WM Housing Group from Coventry, who both received "Highly Commended" awards.
Karen Woodward, Regional Apprenticeship Director for the NAS in the West Midlands made the following comment: "This year's awards were a terrific showcase of the outstanding wealth of Apprenticeship talent that we have across the West Midlands. Given the volume and high calibre of entries we received, I'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the winners for this superb achievement. It's been a tough year for businesses and the economy, but the awards have given Apprenticeships the chance to shine - showing that they are key to growth during the economic upturn. All the finalists demonstrated what makes Apprenticeships so successful, not only in the West Midlands but throughout England. The winners are now ambassadors for Apprenticeships and for the region's dedication to this programme."
Mike Davies, Finning UK's HR Director comments, "On behalf of the Executive team I would like to thank all those involved in making our Apprenticeship Scheme and our dedicated Training Academy a resounding success. This award comes hot on the heels of the "outstanding" accreditation we received from Ofsted for our Training Academy late last year and this is truly reinforces that Finning provide the best apprenticeship program in the industry. Well done to Apprentice Program Manager Paul Lawson and his Apprenticeship Training team – Steve Ingleby, Phil Squire and Nicki Haywood."
Finning UK will now represent the West Midlands and automatically go through to a judging panel for the National Apprenticeship Awards held on the 29 June 2011, in London.
